 | The Cradle Coast Authority launched its Sustainable Regions Investment Plan in 20 October 2002. The plan is part of the Commonwealth Government’s Sustainable Regions Program.
Under this program the Cradle Coast region was identified as a region undergoing major economic, social and environmental change. Up to $12 million has been allocated for investment in the Cradle Coast region over the three-year life of the program.
The Commonwealth Government has appointed the Cradle Coast Sustainable Regions Advisory Committee to provide recommendations for the use of the funds in the region. The Advisory Committee includes the nine members of the Cradle Coast Authority Board, plus a representative from the Tasmanian Employment Advisory Council.
The Advisory Committee has developed an Investment Plan which identifies six regional priorities, based on previous consultation, as issues of major concern to the region. The priorities represent a balance between social, economic and environmental issues and will provide a framework for rebuilding the region’s economy, from which other opportunities will flow.
The regional priorities are:
- Participation in education, training and employment.
- Investment in existing growth industries.
- Value-adding of traditional industries.
- Creation of new long-term industries.
- Protection of the natural environment .
- Reversing population decline.
The Advisory Committee has set a target of tripling the Commonwealth’s investment from other sources. All grant proposals will require at least equal contributions from other sources, such as other programs and funding partners.
The Advisory Committee will assess all funding proposals on a case-by-case basis and provide recommendations to the Hon John Anderson, Minister for Transport and Regional Services, for the approval and release of Program funds.
Copies of the Investment plan are available from the Authority and at the offices of its member Councils. Click here for a copy of the plan (pdf).
