Cradle Coast Youth Transitions Taskforce
The Cradle Coast Youth Transitions Taskforce has been established under the Tasmanian Government's Guaranteeing Futures initiative. The role of the Cradle Coast Youth Transitions Taskforce is:
"identification of existing and new opportunities for youth participation in post-compulsory education, training and employment (PIPCETE) opportunities in the region and facilitating access to these through coordinated and flexible service delivery"
Vision and Mission
Our vision is that everyone on the Cradle Coast will be able to find out:
What options are available in post-compulsory education, training and employment Who provides them Who can access them Where they can access them What means of access are available What help they can get What they can do to shape the future
AND be able to play an active role in shaping the future to the fullest extent they want to and are able to.
The Cradle Coast Youth Transitions Taskforce will:
LEAD the region by providing accurate, relevant and accessible information to all stakeholders and providing a forum for collaboration
INFLUENCE the delivery of education, training and workforce services by working closely with those who use, resource and deliver services
FACILITATE coordinated services through collaboration, partnerships and cooperation
The Youth Transitions Taskforce project will build on the capacity the Cradle Coast Authority has developed under Stronger Learning Pathways and other education and training projects undertaken in previous years. Youth Transitions Taskforces are being established in all three regions of Tasmania and it is expected that each region will implement the initiative to take into account the unique characteristics of each regional area and to build on activity already underway. The Cradle Coast Youth Transitions Taskforce will complement the activity of current service providers and serve as a resource to the region.
The project will be managed by Geoff Speers, Youth Transitions Taskforce Program Manager. Geoff can be contacted at the Cradle Coast Authority offices or by e-mail gspeers@cradlecoast.com

Developing Skills for Sustainable Agrifood Value Chains
The "Developing Skills for Sustainable Agrifood Value Chains" project has been approved for funding over two years under the Australian Government Targeting Skills Needs in Regions program.
The aim of this project is to develop a range of competencies relevant to agrifood value chain management as a basis for industry reform and sustainable competitive advantage in Australian and global markets. The project is innovative in its approach to skills development, targeting several levels within existing and emerging value chains as a basis for 'whole of chain' competitiveness. The project is a two year industry capacity-building and training program positioning the Tasmanian agrifood supply chains to develop sustainable competitive advantage in the global marketplace, particularly in the growing Asian regional markets.
The project commenced in February 2008. The project officer is Peter Cocker on seondment from TAFE Tasmania. Peter can be contacted on (03) 6434 5705 or Peter.Cocker@tafe.tas.edu.au

Education and Training
Participation in education and training is a key regional priority for the Cradle Coast region. The Authority has partnership arrangements with the University of Tasmania, State Government, TAFE Tasmania and the Commonwealth Government through its Sustainable Regions Program to address this important issue.
Creating Attitudinal Change to Education and Training in the Cradle Coast Region: Report
In August 2004 the Stronger Learning Pathways Reference Group commissioned Denis White of Stride Consulting to undertake research into community attitudes to education and training in the Cradle Coast region. This was done in an attempt to understand the underlying attitudes affecting educational performance in the region, and to provide direction in addressing any negative attitudes.
