Description
A working group consisting of key stakeholders has been established to investigate options and agree on priority projects and cost sharing commitments for the Devonport Gateway area with the intent of creating a sense of arrival consistent with Tasmania's brand image and Devonport's status as Tasmania's sea visitor entry point.
The project will focus on strategies to improve the approach, departure and immediate surrounds including access to tourism information and services, commercial precincts, regional attractions and state-wide touring routes.
Status
Consultants completed the Devonport Gateway Development Plan in March 2003. The Devonport City Council has established the Devonport Eastern Shore Project Special Committee. The Committee have appointed a Project Officer to work with the Devonport City Council and other key stakeholders to implement the findings of the Devonport Gateway Development Plan and the Council's Value Management Study.

The Devonport Eastern Shore Special Committee will receive $55,000 from the Sustainable Regions Program to improve visitors' arrival and departure experiences at the Devonport home of the Spirits of Tasmania.
Sustainable Regions funds will address the core elements of the visitor's arrival and departure experience by improving and coordinating signage, tourism information and visual amenity between the Spirits’ docking area and the Bass Highway on-ramps.
The Devonport Eastern Shore Special Committee will manage the project and the Devonport City Council are contributing $272,000 over 2 years towards managing the project.
