RECREATIONAL TRAILS STRATEGY
Description:
This was a joint project between the Cradle Coast Recreational Advisory Group and the Cradle Coast Authority.
The project reviewed all recreational trails (walking, horse riding and cycling trails) throughout the region with the aim of creating a development strategy for a network of multi-use trails in the Cradle Coast region.
This strategy identified trails that have the most potential for economic, social, health and tourism growth. The strategy provided the framework to seek resources and to ensure that those resources are effectively spent.
A steering committee consisting of the Cradle Coast Authority, Sport and Recreation Tasmania, Forestry Tasmania, Parks and Wildlife Service and local government and community representatives oversaw this project.
Maher Brampton Associates were appointed as the consultants in February 2003 to undertake the trails strategy. Community consultation meetings were held at Zeehan, Devonport, Wynyard and King Island and Burnie. Consultation also took place with key stakeholders.
