Today, the Prime Minister has announced that Marinus Link is one of 15 major national infrastructure projects that will be fast-tracked to speed up the approval process, under a bilateral model between the federal government and the states.

Marinus Link, together with Battery of the Nation, were recently identified as “Regionally Important Projects” by the Cradle Coast Authority. For our region, these projects will stimulate economic activity and investment that will bring once in a generation opportunities to enhance education and training opportunities, address disadvantage, improve liveability standards, create opportunities for new businesses and deliver project and ongoing quality jobs in key industries.

Through Marinus Link, Tasmania’s current and expanded hydro generation and our enormous potential for economical deep pumped hydro, will support the national electricity market with the long duration, dispatchable renewable energy that is needed to firm up increasing generation from variable renewable sources. The Cradle Coast has the long duration storage the nation needs, as well as some of the best wind resources in the world.

On top of the hundreds of direct and indirect jobs that will be created to build Marinus Link, it will induce potentially a further $5.7 billion in renewable energy generation and storage investment and an additional 2350 jobs. Most of this investment and job creation will occur in the Cradle Coast region. #cradlecoastgoodenergy #hereforgood
