WHAT IS THE COASTERS?

The Coasters is a group of like-minded young people who live and work on the Cradle Coast, and wish to influence the region’s future. Through regular events – Friday morning coffees, Friday arvo drinks, a Winter Symposium and other events – they share skills, knowledge and experience to raise aspirations and improve access to career development and mentoring. Most ‘Coasters’ are between 18 and 35 y.o, however there is no age limit; we’re for the young and young at heart!

WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH KING ISLAND?

Thanks to the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, King Islanders have the opportunity to get involved. The first stage of the project saw successful applicants from King Island attend The Coasters 2019 Winter Symposium in Stanley. The second stage of the project will see existing Coasters from north-west Tasmania visit King Island to share skills, knowledge and experiences and help get The Coasters up and running on King Island.

The Field Trip at a glance; 11 – 12 October 2019, industry site visits, leadership workshop with the Institute of Positive Education and networking event.

SELECTION PROCESS

Places are limited, and a selection panel will determine the successful applicants based on both the quality of their application and achieving the right mix of people to make this project a success. Applicants must be willing and able to contribute skills, experience and insights which will help locals establish The Coasters on King Island, not only throughout the Field Trip, but remotely, over the ensuing six-month period.

Participants will need to be able to travel to King Island on Thursday October 10, returning to Wynyard Saturday October 12.
