Wind grade is calculated by the average annual wind speed, but just like sunshine (there are more hours of sunshine during summer than winter), wind is usually seasonal too. While we have “A Grade” wind here on the Cradle Coast, seasonality is also critical as an increasing proportion of electricity nationally is generated by variable wind and solar. There needs to continually be enough generation to meet demand all day and night, all year round, not just on an annual average! Here on the Cradle Coast we have the “Roaring Forties” which supplies strong, constant wind all day, all year. #cradlecoastgoodenergy #hereforgood

This chart shows why it is cheaper to generate electricity from wind in the Cradle Coast than in other Renewable Energy Zones in regional areas across Australia, all year round – because the wind keeps blowing.
