Two new funding programs have been made available under Energising Tasmania, a $16.1 million federal funding commitment with the output of a Tasmanian workforce better equipped with the priority skills necessary to build Tasmania’s capability in the renewable energy and related sectors, and to support the Battery of the Nation initiative.

The new funding programs are:

– The Energy and Infrastructure Workforce Development Fund, which is available to industry associations, business collectives or regional community organisations to undertake projects and activities to support Tasmania in developing a skilled workforce (round funding $434 000, closes 4 December)

– The Energy and Infrastructure Training Market Development Fund which is available to Registered Training Organisations to support the capacity building of training providers (including trainer recruitment, upskilling trainers and supporting trainers to relocate) as well as developing courses and delivery methods that meet the needs of industry (round funding $850,000, closes 5 February 2021)

The previously launched Energising Tasmania Training Fund is still open, with the closing date is now extended to 30 June 2021. This fund provides Endorsed Registered Training Organisations, working in partnership with employers, fully subsidised training places to deliver nationally-recognised qualifications to workers in areas of priority skills needed. Endorsed RTOs are eligible to apply for non-tuition cost support up to the value of $1000 per learner.

With our long, rich history of building, operating and supporting world leading renewable energy assets and infrastructure, there is no shortage of relevant intellectual capital within Tasmania’s workforce. These funds will support the workforce to pivot overlapping skills in preparation for the rapidly growing needs of the renewable energy sector.
